Video-Assisted Speech-to-Speech (VA-STS) utilizes video conferencing technology to provide the STS Communications Assistant with visual cues during the conversation which can improve the quality of your call.

The Communications Assistant repeats the STS user's spoken words but how much is revoiced is up to the STS user; all of the conversation or only what's not understood.


Follow these simple steps!

Dial 711 (or 877-787-0503) and inform the Communications Assistant that you would like to make a VA-STS call. Then go to and the Communications Assistant will give you a Meeting ID number to join.


Once connected, the Zoom screen appears on your computer. This is a one-way video connection in which the Communications Assistant will see you. Provide the area code and telephone number of the person you wish to call.  The Communications Assistant will dial the number and connect to the other party.

You speak on your phone directly to the other party.

The Communications Assistant sees and hears you, and repeats your spoken words to the other party as needed for clarity.

The other party talks directly you.

My Profile (known as Customer Profile) allows STS users who access relay through a toll-free number to submit their user preferences such as:

  • Contact information

  • Emergency numbers

  • Conversation preferences

  • Speed dial numbers

  • Customer notes

STS users will have the flexibility of updating their user preferences as needed. User information is confidential and secure.

SPRINT CAPTEL: FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. IP Captioned Telephone Service may use a live operator. The operator generates captions of what the other party to the call says. These captions are then sent to your phone. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund. No cost is passed on to the CapTel user for using the service.
